Wow.! such magnificent buildings.

.and what comes to mind for me is how much value  we as a culture  have placed on knowledge…housing it in such a way…very symbolic of how much we value the contents of our minds, illumined or otherwise…..

thanks for sharing these photos..

I'd like to check out the books on tape in those libraries………………………………..LOL!

Seriously, what I would give for a month in each of those libraries with all access!  And to time travel back to the Library of Alexandria.

RIF - Reading Is Fundamental   (remember that one, any one?)

Do think those libraries have periodical sections with those Sexy Models in them?  Oh, the contribution they've made to mankind!!!

Superb as always DEO.

Doesn't it just make you want to spend a day sorting through some of those books? Makes the local Barnes and Noble look like the Mcdonalds of literature.

Your library is your portrait.

To add a library to a house is to give that house a soul. - Cicero

A library of wisdom, then, is more precious than all wealth, and all things that are desirable cannot be compared to it.
- Richard de Bury

The only true equalisers in the world are books; the only treasure-house open to all comers is a library; the only wealth which will not decay is knowledge; the only jewel which you can carry beyond the grave is wisdom.
- J. A. Langford

Love libraries. wonderful, especially the older ones with books that are out of date and no longer published. I knew a few who collected 1st editions of books and very rare books.
There's something always so intimate about books.

gorgeous. I LOVE libraries. When I was in university I'd just sit in the one we had there and try to 'absorb' all those books (It didn't work..)! I attribute my ability to research the net to being let loose in Belfast Queens Uni Library when I was 15….
Thank you for this fabulous celebration.
